When planning your wedding, it’s easy to get overwhelmed—after all, between booking a venue, catering, floral arrangements, entertainment, and more, it’s hard to know exactly when to take care of it all. We can’t help you with every step of planning your wedding, but we can help you know when you should start shopping for your wedding dress.
Before Shopping
After you get engaged, there’s only a few things to plan before you start shopping. The two major keys are booking your venue and date. These are the two first steps of planning, and help you start to better envision exactly what you want your wedding day to look like. By knowing the setting and season, you’ll have a clearer picture in your head of the type of dresses you may want to start trying on!
10-12 Months Before You Say “I Do”
You need to start shopping early! Generally, we recommend brides begin looking 10-12 months before the wedding. This may sound long, but it’s a necessary timeline, as it takes several months for your designer to sew your dress after you place your order. Your wedding dress is a high-end, designer garment that’s made to order, and the process of constructing it takes a long time.
2 Months Before You Say “I Do”
After your dress arrives, you’ll need to get alterations. Don’t worry—these are typically very minor, and are just to ensure your dress fits completely perfectly. You’ll alter the hem of the dress to be the correct length for your shoes, and probably tighten a strap or shorten a sleeve. These are totally normal and just make your wedding day that much smoother!
