It’s our job to help brides find “the one” and make sure this is a fun experience for you! Read on for some tips on the gown selection process and what to expect:

When To Start Shopping

Once the venue and date of the wedding are decided, our brides-to-be typically begin shopping for their wedding dresses. If possible, start shopping at least one year before your wedding since most bridal gowns need four to six months to be delivered. Allowing time for alterations and avoiding rush fees will allow you to plan ahead.

During this time, you should definitely set a budget for your wedding dress. Be sure to factor in taxes, shipping, and alterations when crunching the numbers. Don't forget to include money in your budget for accessories such as shoes and jewelry!

Choosing What Style You Like

After you've set a budget and a date, you should research what wedding dress styles you're considering. Looking for something glamorous and intricate that hugs your curves, or a flowing gown for your beach wedding? Check out Pinterest boards or make a vision board if you're feeling crafty. It’s so helpful for our bridal consultants to have an idea of what you like so we can help streamline the shopping process.

If you’re not sure what silhouette you like, check out our blog on dress shapes so you can explain what styles you like to your bridal consultant!

Picking The Best Shopping Buddies

Before heading into the store to shop for your wedding dress, it's important to choose the right shopping companions. It is best to bring one to three of your most trusted friends or family members. If you want your wedding dress shopping to be enjoyable, it's important to keep your group small and choose people who won't add extra stress to the process.

When choosing your wedding dress, you should also choose your accessories and shoes at the same time. If you're about five months away from your wedding, you can also shop for undergarments for your dress. If you need a strapless bra, shapewear, or a bra that fits an asymmetrical sleeve, you should choose materials that will make your wedding dress fit even better.

What About Fittings?

You should schedule a fitting three months before the wedding or bridal portraits. Several fittings may be necessary to ensure everything is perfect. Two to three weeks prior to the wedding should be reserved for the second and final fittings.

As you can tell, this process is super important! We absolutely love helping brides find the perfect gown and walk them through every step of the way to ensure they’re stress-free and confident in their decision to work with us.
